The posted contingency awards will be distributed to all classes in the form of $25 product certificates.  Winning racers receive their contingency awards at the track upon their race win.

The 2010 Contingency Connection is YOUR CONNECTION to performance manufacturers. 

 To be eligible for this program you must enter into the Lane Automotive Bracket points program.  Cost for Top ET and Modified is $60 and $35 for Street and Jr. Dragster classes.

This program, which began in 2002, has developed into a local racer’s opportunity to compete for a true World Championship without having to travel long distances over the span of a full season to be competitive.

For 2010, the IHRA Summit SuperSeries features a total prize package of $200,000 to the participants all over the United States, Canada, Aruba and Curacao.  The World Champions in the Box and No Box classes will each take home $10,000 cash from Summit Racing Equipment as well as an IHRA gold card, a world championship Ironman trophy and a world champion diamond ring. 

The 2010 IHRA Summit SuperSeries Box class world champion will also receive a turn key Undercover Motorsports dragster. The No Box class world champion will receive a Haulmark Enclosed Trailer as well as a Fayette Golf Car Company custom golf cart.

In 2010 the IHRA Summit SuperSeries program will be contested in the same manner as it was in 2009 with each participating track determining its Box and No Box class winner and runner-up. The two class winners will advance to a run-off held at the Bracket Team Finals (in US 131’s case, the Division 5 Thunder event held in Martin on September 16-19, 2010).

The winners at the Division 5 event become part of the “Elite 8″ who will face off for the 2010 World Championships at the IHRA World Finals held in Richmond, VA on October 15-16, 2010.

Racers advancing to the “Elite 8″ will also see $7,000 awarded to the runners-up; $2,000 awarded to the semi-finalists; and $1,000 awarded to the quarter-finalists. Each of the racers in the “Elite 8″ also receive $1,000 in tow money for the event.

In 2010 all participating tracks will receive $1,000 to be distributed as they see fit amongst their racers. 

General rules for the 2010 IHRA Summit SuperSeries program state that participant’s Summit SuperSeries points will not begin until they are registered with both the track and IHRA; must sign up for the points program at the Summit Super Series track; join IHRA and receive Summit SuperSeries Membership and license; and may not change car number, class, or track after running their first SSS event of 2010.  The $50 membership fee includes entering into the Summit SuperSeries.  Racers just need to get a Summit SuperSeries “X” number and report this number to track. This fee does not include a participation license to attend any of the IHRA events (Nitro Jam, Summit Pro Am, Summit Team Finals).

In 2008 US 131 racer Justin Wanamaker made the trip to Rockingham by winning the No Box run off at the team finals. That accomplishment not only showed his own racing skill, but also proved that the IHRA Summit SuperSeries program does indeed offer what is advertised, a chance for the local racer to compete for a World Championship.

It is with great sadness to report that Michelle Smith, two-time track champion at US 131 Motorsports Park, passed away, Thursday, February 18, 2010 after a very brief illness.  She was only 46 years old.

Michelle was surrounded by many racers and family members when she died peacefully.  Michelle brought tough competition each time she raced.  Michelle and her husband, Dan, have raced at US 131 Motorsports Park for many years and were faithful racers who were dedicated to the sport of drag racing.  The husband and wife team each drove cars and battled for championships on at least two occasions.  Michelle narrowly won her first championship in 2004 with her husband Dan coming in a close second place.  Again Michelle dominated the Street class in 2005 and won the championship.  Michelle was the first female to win not only a championship at Martin but back-to-back championships in 2004-2005.

Michelle also won the Race of Champions event in Indianapolis in the late 1990’s.  Michelle was an exceptional racer and a familiar face at US 131 Motorsports Park and will be sadly missed.

Engine Pro has once again orchestrated with DART Machinery and Performance Engineering to offer a brand new 565 cubic inch Big Block Chevy engine that will be given away at the 6^th Annual Funny Car Nationals on September 11, 2010 to one lucky racer.  This is the third consecutive year a racing engine will be awarded to a racer at US 131 Motorsports Park from these sponsors.

“To have this commitment from our sponsors in offering this fantastic prize, eligible to many racers is truly a blessing,” said US 131’s Marketing Director Stephanie Peterson.  Peterson continued, “This is just another reason why racers come to US 131 Motorsports Park to compete.”

 DART Machinery has generously supplied the block, CNC heads and the manifold for this brand new engine.  Performance Engineering of Jenison, MI will once again assemble this racing engine valued at approximately $20,000.  The engine is complete with the exception of the fuel or ignition systems.

Many loyal sponsors are contributing high tech parts for this engine as they have for the two previous engines put together by Engine Pro and US 131.  Included are Melling Performance’s billet oil pump, JE Pistons, Hastings Racing performance piston rings, Oliver billet performance connecting rods, ARP fasteners, Ferrea performance valves and Comp Cams valve train products, SCAT performance crankshaft, Mahle-Clevite engine bearings, Victor Reinz performance gaskets and Stef’s Performance’s B&B Performance line.  Pro Finish Powder Coating will be powder coating parts of the engine and offering a $250 gift certificate to a racer who does not win the engine.  

To determine eligibility each racer must enter into the track’s bracket racing series in either the Top ET or Modified class.  The winner will be determined by taking the top 10 racers in point standings in each class at the conclusion of the points race prior to the Funny Car Nationals.  All qualified racers will have their names placed in a box and the names will be drawn until only one name is left, the winner. 

Past winners are Dennis Geeting of Muskegon, MI in 2008 and last year’s winner Justin Wanamaker of Kalamazoo, MI.

This news has brought excitement already. “This is a move the fine people at Lane Automotive wanted to see and of course the racers are all for this,” stated US 131 Motorsports Park general manager Jason Peterson. “The goal was to enhance the already highest guaranteed to win bracket series in Michigan without drastically increasing the racer entry fee. Lane Automotive and Edelbrock with US 131 chose to raise the payout with only a $10 increase in the car or motorcycle entry fee,” said Peterson.

These races are open to anyone in the following classes, Top ET, Modified and Street on Saturdays, May 22 and August 21. The payout in the Top ET and Modified classes will be $2000 to win and the street class will see an additional $100 to win. Centrally located between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, MI became the logical choice to host this year’s “B93 Birthday Bash.” The venue’s expansive festival grounds and modern facilities are well suited for this event
