PRO MODS RACE INTO SPOTLIGHT AT NORTHERN NATIONALS

Jets, Hemi Challenge, ‘Mad Maxine’ Also Featured at US 131 Motorsports Park

MARTIN, Mich. – An unfavorable weather forecast and its expected effect on travel has compelled US 131 Motorsports Park officials to adjust the schedule for the 24th annual Northern Nationals drag racing championships with a new emphasis on jet dragsters and the Pro Modified stars of the Midwest Drag Racing Series.

A scaled down “Fantastic Friday” version of the Northern Nationals, presented by Gun Lake Casino Resort, will feature some of the biggest names in Pro Mod drag racing along with the SS/AH Hemi Challenge, the “Mad Maxine” nostalgia Ford Funny Car of Shannon Hill and the 250 mile-an-hour Larsen Motorsports jet dragsters.

Adult tickets for the Friday event are $25 while tickets for youngsters 6-12 are only $10.  As always, kids under six are free when accompanied by a ticketed adult.  Parking in the main lot is free for all standard-size vehicles.

The first round of qualifying is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday with eliminations in Pro Mod, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman beginning at 3 p.m. along with first round competition in a special Hemi Challenge event featuring the 1968 Plymouth Hemi Barracudas of multi-time U.S. Nationals winner Charlie Westcott, Anthony Rhodes, Steve Hebert and others.

The Florida Tech and House of Kolor jet dragsters driven by two-time IHRA Jet Car World Champion Elaine Larsen and teammate Josette Roach will race for Northern Nationals bragging rights at 8 p.m. along with a jet Funny Car.

Oklahomans Ryan Martin and Shawn Ellington, two of the biggest stars of The Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws television franchise enter the race separated by just 19 points in a season-long battle for the MDRS championship.  Champions will be crowned in additional sportsman categories on Michigan’s fastest track including 10.5 and No Time 28.

Tickets purchased for Saturday’s show will be honored on Friday or at the 2027 renewal of the Northern Nationals.
